Conservatives in the Vale of White Horse deliver on their election manifesto promise During the May's election the Conservatives promised that they would deliver 2hr free parking in all the Vale's car parks in time for Christmas. Today we have kept that promise. The new Vale of White Horse District Council car parking policy, which includes a period of two hours free parking anytime between 8am and 6pm. The new scheme is being introduced to help boost the trade in Abingdon, Faringdon and Wantage town centres, allowing people time to do everyday shopping, spend time in the cafes, find out more about other businesses and attend meetings without having to worry about paying to park. It is hoped that the introduction of two hours free parking will provide a boost to businesses during these current tough economic conditions. Under the new arrangements the charging period will change to between 8am and 6pm. During this time people wishing to park will need to display a valid ticket, including during the free two hour period. Council Leader Matthew Barber, said: “We are really looking forward to the launch of two hours free parking in the Vale, it will provide a real boost to both shoppers looking to get presents in the run up to Christmas and especially to local businesses which should benefit from extra footfall.” He added, “We have delivered on our promise to introduce two hours free parking to Vale car parks and hopefully this will encourage people to do more shopping in our market towns rather than going elsewhere.”
