PCC joins Friday night patrol of Maidenhead town centre

Last Friday, 28 July, Thames Valley Police and Crime Commissioner, Matthew Barber, joined the Maidenhead Street Angels on patrol in the town centre.

Maidenhead Street Angels are trained volunteers from local churches who provide help and support to people on a night out in Maidenhead town centre. They operate every Saturday night plus the last Friday of every month (payday Friday) from 10.30pm till around 2am.

The Street Angels were recently awarded £500 from the PCC’s Community Fund to supply new recruits with uniforms and training.

Following his patrol, Matthew said: “It was a pleasure to join the Maidenhead Street Angels on one of their Friday night patrols of the town centre. The Street Angels have been assisting people on nights out in Maidenhead for the past 11 years and I am pleased to have supported their newest volunteers with a £500 grant.”

John Clegg, Maidenhead Street Angels team leader, said: “The team would like to thank Matthew for joining us last Friday on what turned out to be one of the busiest nights for a while. We were pleased to be able to introduce him to some business owners, Friday evening revellers and homeless whilst our own conversations with him were very informative. A great opportunity for volunteers to speak to ‘those at the top’.”
