Abbey Gardens in Abingdon is one of the very best parks in the UK – and that’s official. Managed by the Vale of White Horse District Council and maintained by their contractor Sodexo, it’s among a record-breaking 1,686 parks and green spaces that have received a prestigious Green Flag Award – the mark of a quality park or green space. The award, now celebrating its 20th year, recognises and rewards the best parks and green spaces across the country. A Green Flag award is a sign to the public that the space boasts the highest possible standards, is beautifully maintained and has excellent facilities. Councillor Charlotte Dickson, cabinet member for parks at Vale of White Horse District Council, said: “We are absolutely delighted to receive a Green Flag Award from Keep Britain Tidy.” “We’ve won this award many times, which proves the park’s quality and beauty. It’s important to have somewhere to relax and enjoy the outdoors, and Abbey Gardens give both residents and visitors to the Vale just that. It’s an ideal spot to have a picnic or just stop by on your lunch break.”
