Tuesday, 6 May, 2014

On Saturday 10 May, The Beacon, Wantage opens its doors wide for a day of free activities and fun. The Beacon (formerly Wantage Civic Hall) is home to a wide range of regular classes and activities, as well as a perfect venue for weddings, celebrations and children’s parties.

The open day will give you the perfect opportunity to pop in between 10am and 5pm to take a look for yourself. Admission is free and families are very welcome. There will be lots of balloons and cakes to give away on the day.

Open Day events include:

  • free mini cinema
  • free children’s activities – including decorating your very own biscuit
  • demonstrations of classes
  • free “try it and see” sessions
  • information displays from local groups and hirers
  • mega Beacon Prize Draw

You can see demonstrations of dance, drama, exercise classes and more – and take part in some hands-on sessions. In the auditorium there will be more activities, with a bar serving local real ales, as well as coffee and cakes in the coffee shop. The bar and the coffee shop will both be open all day. Plus don’t miss the free screenings of Movies 4 Kids in a special mini cinema created for the day – complete with popcorn from Priscilla, Queen of Popcorn!

Gemma MulveyGibbs, Team Leader at The Beacon, said: “It will be a really full, fun day out for all the family and we are looking forward to showing everyone our new-look venue. So please come down on 10 May and see what The Beacon has on offer for you.”

Cllr Matthew Barber, Leader of Vale of White Horse District Council, said: “The Beacon has got off to a great start with sold out film screenings and more people all the time coming to events and classes. The open day gives everyone the perfect opportunity to come along and check out what the facility has to offer.”
