At tonight's Vale of White Horse District Council meeting the Conservatives voted to freeze council tax for yet another year, meaning the average Band D household pays just £2.25 per week for district council services. This equates to a real terms cut of nearly 8% since 2011! Thanks to millions of pounds worth of back office savings the Conservative-led Council is able to protect front line services AND invest in new facilities for the Vale. In addition to freezing council tax yet again the Conservatives are also delivering:
- £2.5m flood defence scheme for Abingdon
- New £12m leisure centre for Wantage and Grove
- Funding in place if required to bring forward major infrastructure projects such as Lodge Hill junction in Abingdon and the Wantage Eastern Link Road
- More than £650,000 invested in our parks and play areas next year alone in Faringdon, Wantage and Abingdon
- An additional £250,000 to support rural broadband projects - on top of the £500,000 funding obtained in 2014
- Rebuilt and refurbished public toilets
- Flood defences and a new rail crossing for South Hinksey, better linking the Vale with Oxford City
- Continued support for our Market Towns - which led to Wantage being declared Market Town of the Year
- Further improvements to the hugely successful Beacon in Wantage
- More investment in planning enforcement
