Tuesday, 18 September, 2012

The Leaders of Vale of White Horse District Council has today given his reaction to the news that Didcot A Power Station will close next year. The 2,000MW coal-fired power station on the outskirts of Didcot, which is operated by RWE npower, will close on 31 March 2013, after 42 years of service. The site straddles the border of the Vale of White Horse and South Oxfordshire and has been an important part of the community since it first opened. Both councils will now work with RWE npower as they plan the decommissioning, demolition and then subsequent redevelopment of the site. Cllr Matthew Barber, Leader of Vale of White Horse District Council, said: “Although the future of the site is yet to be decided, we are very supportive of RWE npower’s plans and look forward to working with them on developing this area, which alongside the Science Vale Enterprise Zone will bring significant investment and greater economic prosperity to both the Vale and South Oxfordshire.”
