People wishing to view the demolition of the south towers at Didcot Power Station A this July are in for a disappointment, or a very early morning.
Vale of White Horse District Councils have learnt that the demolition of the three towers, which is set to take place on Sunday 27 July, will happen between 3am and 5am, meaning that many local residents will not be able to view the spectacle.
Site owners RWE npower has outlined a number of factors that have influenced the timing of the blowdown, including safety checks, weather and road closures.
Cllr Matthew Barber, Leader of Vale of White Horse District Council, said: “Didcot Power Station is a landmark of huge importance for people around here, offering a real sense of location and local identity. It’s therefore very disappointing that the demolition of the first set of towers will take place at such an early hour, meaning that many, including children and many adults who have only known Didcot with the towers, will not be able to witness this historic occasion. We will do everything we can to persuade them to rethink their plans."
