Residents can stay up to date with recycling and waste collections using their smartphones with Binzone – the new web-app from the Vale of White District Council.

Just by typing in a postcode and selecting their address, they’ll find out what day their bin will be emptied, and most importantly which colour bins are due to be emptied next.

The web-app features a handy “locate me” button, which will bring up the bin information for the user’s current location – so they don’t even need to type their postcode in if they’re using the web-app from home.

Councillor Matthew Barber said: “Binzone replaces the councils’ old recycling app Binfo, which is now no longer available. The old app was only available to iPhone and Android smartphone users, but Binzone will work on any smartphone, tablet, laptop or desktop computer.”

Councillor Charlotte Dickson, cabinet member for waste at the Vale of White Horse District Council, said: “Even the most enthusiastic recyclers need an occasional reminder about which bin is due to be emptied next. We like to make recycling easy for people and we think Binzone makes it even easier – the information is right there in your pocket on your smartphone so you can check wherever you are, whenever you like.”
