Last month I proposed a motion to the Vale Council calling on them to support communities in the Vale who are seeking to have BT install faster broadband. This received cross party support and the Council has been promoting it ever since. The real work however is being done by individuals across the district who are registering their support - and it's paying off. Blewbury is currently second place, out of 2,495 telephone exchanges eligible for a competition to get high speed broadband installed by BT; with Faringdon not far behind. Residents in Blewbury and the nearby villages of Upton, the Hagbournes and the Astons have set up a facebook group to encourage more people to vote. The five areas in the country with the highest percentage of votes by 31 December 2010 will get BT infinity fibre optic cables installed in their area. BT has also stated that it will consider how it can help areas that are not in the top five but have at a vote of at least 75 percent.
