A number of flood alerts are currently in place across the district. Please see The Environment Agency website for details of which areas are affected.
In an area like the Vale which is home to a network of major rivers and smaller streams, flooding can happen from time to time. With the help of Oxfordshire County Council we are organising filled sandbag 'dumps' today (22nd Nov) to some properties vulnerable to flooding that we have identified in areas particularly at risk. We are contacting local points of contact/residents who have volunteered to co-ordinate the placing of the bags. If you own land or property alongside a river or other watercourse, the Environment Agency's guide 'Living on the Edge' explains your rights and responsibilities as a riparian owner. With more heavy rain due tonight residents should be aware and plan ahead. We are advising that if houses are in imminent danger of flooding and their is risk to live, call 999 and ask for Police. Otherwise sandbags can be organised by Oxfordshire County Council by calling the OCC customer services line on 0845 310 1111. During extreme flooding events the council works closely with emergency services and partner authorities to ensure a co-ordinated response to the incident. The council will try to provide assistance to residents, wherever possible, in these circumstances. If you need help please contact the council on 01235 520202 or 01235 524886 if you are calling about an emergency out of office hours. For more information see the Environment Agency website , where you can check whether your home is at risk of flooding, register for the EA's free floodline warnings service and check flood warnings currently.
