Helping you celebrate Her Majesty's 90th birthday

Wednesday, 11 May, 2016

On the weekend of 10 to 12 June 2016 many people across the country will join together and have street parties to celebrate the Queen’s official 90th birthday. The Vale is already helping towns and villages across the district with grants ranging from £100 to £7,500, ensuring that everyone in the district can join in the fun. If you want to join in the celebrations and will be holding a street party have a quick look through the following advice to help make sure your party goes with a swing. How do I apply to hold a street party? If you need to close a road in order to hold your street party please complete our street party road closure application form (852.5 KB) Word 97-2003and email it to TemRdClosure@southandvale.gov.uk. This will include details of any roads that need to be closed to allow your event to take place. Please submit your form well in advance of the event taking place as this will give us plenty of time to ensure we can confirm any road closures. Music If a key part of your street party is the playing of amplified music you will need to apply for a Temporary Event Notice. If you are just playing background music then you do not need any type of licence. Sale of alcohol If you plan to sell alcohol you will need a Temporary Event Notice which currently costs £21 and covers events up to 499 people. If people are bringing alcohol to your event, but not selling it, then no licence is required. Insurance Whilst not compulsory, we strongly advise organisers to ensure they have adequate insurance cover in place. This is in the event that they are held legally liable to pay compensation if an accident occurs or someone’s property is damaged. Clearing up Please remember it's your responsibility to clear up after your street party. Please do not fill the street bins with rubbish. Tips on holding your event The number one tip for holding a party is to plan early, share jobs out amongst residents and get in touch with the council at least 4-6 weeks in advance if you think you need to apply for any orders or notices. You can find helpful tips, advice and support for organising a successful event on the Streets Alive website www.streetparty.org.uk and The Big Lunch website www.thebiglunch.com. Please also go to the government’s 90th birthday celebration page. Further information If you need any further advice about licences please contact the Licensing Team at the council. Visit our health section for advice on health and food safety.
