People with mobility impairments now have much better access to the riverside in Abingdon, thanks to a new footpath installed by Vale of White Horse District Council. The council worked with the Vale Disability Access Group to create the new path, which runs from Hales Meadow car park to the tow path by the riverside. This makes the area much more accessible for wheelchair and mobility scooter users, who previously had to use a steep path leading down from the bridge. Mike Moon, chair of the Vale Disability Access Group, said: “The path is excellent – a big improvement from the old steep path. The new path is much safer and improves access to the riverside for wheelchair users or people with mobility impairments.” Cllr Matthew Barber, Leader of the Vale, said: “This is great news for our residents. More people than ever can enjoy the riverside now, just in time for the summer months.”
