The people of Longworth have voted in favour of adopting their Neighbourhood Development Plan (NDP). Almost 40 per cent of the parish (185 residents) voted in the referendum which took place on 18 August, with 80 per cent (147 people) voting in favour of the Neighbourhood Plan. Now the residents of the village have voted yes, the Longworth Neighbourhood Plan will go to Vale of White Horse District Council’s meeting on 12 October. At this point it is expected to become formally adopted and the Neighbourhood Plan would then carry legal weight when the district council uses it to help decide planning applications in the parish. Cllr Roger Cox, cabinet member for planning at Vale of White Horse District Council, said: “The council is pleased that the residents of Longworth voted in favour of their Neighbourhood Plan. This is the reward for many hours of hard work by the whole community which helped to produce the plan. It will play a major part in ensuring that any development that happens there is sustainable and area benefits the local community.”
