My last planning meeting (for a while at least)

Friday, 14 May, 2010

From next week I will no longer be on the Vale's planning committee. Havingbeen a member of the Committee on and off for the last seven years I amstepping aside to allow Terry Cox to return and to give me a little moretime to concentrate on other responsibilities. No doubt I will still makethe odd appearance as a substitute member. It will also free me up to campaign more vigorously on some local planning issues in and aroundFaringdon, most notably the Tesco application - more on that soon. Last night's meeting was a long one, and quite interesting. Most notably wewon on an application to rebuilt Faringdon Garage's premises in Pioneer Way,creating a much larger unit. This had been opposed by planners, but wasquite rightly supported by the Town Council. In recent years businesses haveleft the town because there were not enough suitable units of the size theyneeded. The recommendation to refuse was overturned and the details of theapproval will be negotiated in the forthcoming weeks.
