This just in from Network Rail... Network Rail is electrifying the Great Western Railway to deliver more reliable, greener and quieter journeys for thousands of passengers. Electrifying the Great Western Railway will improve one of Britain’s busiest and oldest railways, connecting major towns and cities across southern England and south Wales. It will make journeys smoother and more comfortable for passengers, as well as quieter for people living near the railway. In order to accommodate the new trains and electrification infrastructure Network Rail needs to build a new bridge over the railway at Wantage Road A338, Grove. A new offline bridge will be constructed prior to demolition of the existing bridge which avoids the need for any lengthy road closures. Environmental enabling works began in July this year - Great Crested Newts have been found in the vicinity of the bridge and have to be moved to an alternative habitat before works can begin. Preparatory work is planned to start in November 2014 and the new bridge is expected to open in summer 2015. Network Rail have organised a local drop-in session for the planned works at Wantage Rd A338 to provide more information and answer any questions and concerns from the local community. This will be held at the Old Mill Hall, Grove on Thursday 2nd October between 4pm and 7pm For more information visit www.networkrail.co.uk/great-western-route-modernisation/
