New community grants scheme and Big Society Forum

Thursday, 27 January, 2011

From this Friday (28th January) community groups and town and parish councils can apply for grants from £500 to £5,000 from the Vale District Council. Last year these grants were scrapped by the Lib Dems but are now being reinstated just before the election. If elected the Conservatives hope to increase the budget for community grants to support our main priorities. The awarding of grants is subject to the Council approving a budget for community grants for 2011/12 at its meeting on 23 February.

Organisations interested in making an application should visit the council’s website, where further information and a link to an online application form are available. Alternatively telephone the grants team on 01491 823614.

There will also be a chance for community groups to learn more about the ‘big society’ at a joint voluntary and community sector forum on 25 February, from 9.30am-2.30pm, at Cornerstone Arts Centre in Didcot. To book a place, email admin@ocva.org.uk or call 01865 251946.
