A 29 year old man has been given a £100 fine and ordered to pay court costs after illegally parking in a marked taxi rank. Huseyin Colak of Bath Street, Abingdon attended Oxford Magistrates’ Court on 17 September and pleaded guilty to the offence which took place in Abingdon on 23 March. The prosecution was brought about by the Vale of White Horse District Council after Mr Colak had twice been caught parking illegally on taxi ranks in Abingdon in the space of two weeks during March this year. Residents are being reminded that it is illegal to park on marked taxi ranks. Upon finding a car parked illegally on a taxi rank, officers from the Vale will leave warning notices on the car windows. If the car is caught for a second time, the council pursues a prosecution. Cllr Yvonne Constance, cabinet member for Licensing at the Vale, said: “We are keen to stress that taxi ranks are for taxi drivers only. You can park for two hours completely free of charge in all of our town-centre car parks, so it really isn’t necessary to park illegally like this. We do keep an eye on the taxi ranks and as this case proves, we can and will prosecute repeat offenders.”
