Recycling success for Vale residents

Monday, 18 April, 2016

Residents in the Vale of White Horse have put out over 25 tonnes of old toasters, kettles and irons and tatty old textiles since the launch of the new recycling services in October last year. The Vale of White Horse District Council introduced the new kerbside collections last year to help residents recycle even more from their doorstep by putting small electricals in a carrier bag next to their grey bin, and textiles in a tied carrier bag next to their green bin. The new collections include small unusable electricals like broken hairdryers, electric toys and radios, and tired textiles like old clothes, bedsheets and curtains. Councillor Elaine Ware, cabinet member for waste at the Vale of White Horse District Council, said: “our residents are some of the best in the country at recycling, with our neighbours in South Oxfordshire topping the tables. These new services make recycling even easier – people can put out even more items with their normal bins.” “The services are a permanent part of our kerbside services, so if you’re having a bit of a clear-out or a spring clean, why not give them a try?” For more information, visit www.whitehorsedc.gov.uk/weeeandtextiles.
