The nation was asked to Clean for the Queen last weekend and residents in South Oxfordshire and the Vale of White Horse will have made Her Majesty proud by picking up nearly five tonnes of litter. A total of 32 litterpicking groups across both districts collected a whopping 3.87 tonnes of rubbish and just under a tonne of recycling – adding up to over 300 bags of litter off the streets and roads. Councillor Tony Harbour, cabinet member for waste at South Oxfordshire District Council, said: “We’re really lucky to live in a really beautiful part of the country, and our residents have really excelled themselves to keep it that way – they’ve taken time out of their own weekends to make their local areas somewhere they can be proud of.” Councillor Elaine Ware, cabinet member for waste at the Vale of White Horse District Council, said: “It definitely feels like spring is on its way so there was no better time for our residents and our waste crews to pull together and make sure our district is spick and span. We’d like to give them a big thank you for all of their hard work.” Don’t worry if you missed out on the main clear-ups – there’s still time to pull together a group and have a bit of a local spruce-up.
