Wantage Leisure Centre now boasts a fully refurbished gym following a £127,000 upgrade. New facilities include the latest state-of-the-art Technogym ‘Excite’ equipment that comprises treadmills, recline bikes, crossovers and synchro machines offering a full cardiovascular workout. The centre also now has a newly revamped, air conditioned fitness studio. The improvements were funded by Vale of the White Horse District Council and GLL, which operates Better leisure centres, and are part of an ongoing programme to upgrade facilities across the district. The refurbished gym was officially opened by Vale of the White Horse District Council Chairman, Mike Badcock, on Monday 14 December. Cllr Charlotte Dickson, Cabinet Member for Leisure at Vale of White Horse District Council, said. “The refurbishment and introduction of new equipment at Wantage Leisure Centre is a fantastic improvement. I am sure existing members will appreciate the investment we have made and hope that people from around the Wantage area who haven’t been to the centre for a while will come along to check out the new equipment.” Ben Whaymand, Partnership Manager of charitable social enterprise GLL, said, “Wantage is a hugely popular community facility and we’re delighted that local residents will be able to enjoy the upgraded facilities and have the chance to try out some of the most modern and innovative fitness equipment on the market.” “As a non-profit organisation, we are committed to improving the facilities within the Vale over the long term and will work to encourage more local people to take regular physical exercise and enjoy the benefits that it can offer.”
