Wantage is on the look-out for a new market town coordinator after the Vale of White Horse District Council agreed to provide £40,000 to help boost the town's economy. Over the last three years, there have been significant efforts to improve the vibrancy and vitality of the town, with the number of people using the town centre increasing by 19 per cent between 2014 and 2015. The number of vacant units has decreased substantially, and the work to revitalise Wantage paid off when it was awarded a Great British High Street Award in 2014. The town coordinator role is supported by a £40,000 award from the Vale. The district council will allocate the money over a two year period to help improve the visitor experience and bring more people to the area. We’re really pleased with the work so far to promote the Vale, and hope to see our towns get the credit and attention they deserve with the help of the right individuals.” “It’s really important to celebrate and promote our market towns, which is exactly what we want to achieve with this funding.”
