Wantage will be a hive of activity this weekend as mountain bikers from near and far gather for two days of rides both fun and challenging. Four rides will take place through the local countryside and have been designed by event organisers MTB Marathon to inspire and challenge any mountain biker – from the family-friendly mini marathon to the Monster 100km marathon! This is a chance to try a bike event for the first time or, for the more experienced, to try out new routes. Marshals and an events village will be available to support riders throughout the event with local company Shoretrax on hand to improve skills through special coaching sessions on their portable wooden bike track systems designed on the Canadian mountain ranges. Sarah Wright, Project Manager for The Ridgeway National Trail, said: “Cycling is a great way to have fun and keep fit. It’s great to see people enjoying the outdoors on The Ridgeway and events like this inspire people to get out there.” With 1,500 visitors expected to join the event local businesses will also feel the benefits with more than £40,000 extra predicted to be spent in the town and surrounding area. Cllr Matthew Barber, Leader of Vale of White Horse District Council, said: “This will be a great event that all cycling enthusiasts, no matter their age or experience, can get involved with. It’s also a real boost for Wantage helping to bring in more people to the town and more money for local the tourist trade.” To take part simply go to Wantage football ground, Manor Road, Wantage.
