When I was first elected to the Vale, more than seven years ago now, I remember the Lib Dem's great promise of redevelopment of the Old Gaol. Yethas taken this long for work to start, on a secretive deal that many in thetown still don't think is the best they could get. The scheme will no doubtbe a much needed boost for the town, but it is one that was needed manyyears ago. It will not be until after the Olympics, and indeed after thenext World Cup until the people of Abingdon and the many visitor will beable to enjoy the new riverside development. Good news that its started, butwho is going to take responsibility for the wasted years?
